At some point in our life, we have all received the advice to “stay positive”. Staying positive is one of the hardest things that I have ever had to encounter. It took me years to get better at it, and unfortunately, those cliche Tumblr posts that say “smile, drink water, compliment others” didn’t help me. I found my own tricks for dealing with negativity, that I think really work, and today I’ll be sharing them with you. So, here are some tips on how I try to stay positive.
This may sound strange, but you have to accept the fact that negativity derives from sadness or anger, and these two are emotions come and go all the time. You have to realize what you’re feeling, that’s the first step to dealing with it. Sometimes when you are sad or angry you unknowingly tend to create something, anything and in the process, you drain all those negative emotions out of you. Well, generally when I am sad or angry I prefer to write or paint whatever comes in my head.
Being negative is not something to be upset about, we are all human, it’s very natural for us. Once you accept how you’re feeling and recognize it, making it go away won’t work. It’s very difficult to get rid of emotions, let alone negative ones. It’s very difficult to “just” start thinking positive.
So, the best thing you can do is distract yourself. My best advice would be music. Music always distracts me. You can find your own way to distract yourself.
Realize the main reason why you shouldn’t stress and waste your nerves on something, whatever it is. After some time this won’t be your worry anymore. Whether it is an exam, an event or anything really, at some point in the near future, your future self won’t worry about it.
These tips have helped me when I felt that I was alone, there was no one by my side and there was nothing I could do about it, I really hope these tips help you too.
